Candy corn Bro

As I said last week, with all the cold weather, it’s getting harder and harder to find flowers at my home. I know it is difficult to see what this is a picture of, so you will have to trust me. This is an old pine tree stump covered in bromeliads (and some other unknown vine that just showed up). The bro’s have striped leaves and a flower that looks like candy corn, so I call it my candy corn bro. After hurricane Charlie I had a lot of pine trees that were snapped in two. Rather than have this one removed, I pulled up some of these bro’s and attached them to the tree with nylon cord. The bro’s soon attached to the bark and began to multiply and climb the stump. I have several trees with bromeliads attached, and not just pines. The bro’s seem to like them all. If you walk through any swampy area in south Florida you will see native bromeliads attached to trees (orchids too).

This is a close-up of the candy corn bro. Don’t look at the ratty leaves. It’s been freezing cold and windy and they’ve taken a beating. But doesn’t the flower look like you could eat it?

Have a great week-end and if you find a flower that reminds you of something sweet from your childhood, you go ahead and call that flower anything you want.
