How about this beauty! It’s a Crinum. There are lots of varieties of this plant from small to large. This one has leaves that are 5-6 feet in length and this flower is taller than I am (OK, that’s not so tall!). Still, if you are from up north, think of this as a lily on steroids. But, besides being beautiful and blooming several times a year, this plant has a wonderful smell. She’s at my interior entry gate, so the incredible aroma wafts up the stairs to my front door.

I wasn’t sure how to spell Crinum, so I looked it up and learned a few things.

They like water and sun or light shade. This one is in a dry spot and shaded by my Banyan.

It is better to start them from seed. I dug up several shoots creeping out from under her and planted them elsewhere. They bloom just fine.

Some varieties like arid conditions but they hold their bloom until there is a seasonal rain.

I guess the lesson here is that this plant is a lot more resilient and adaptable than the experts on Google give her credit for.

Like my Crinum, I hope this weekend you can be beautiful, stand tall, smell good, bend a little, and adjust to your environment.
